Science Discourse Project
This NSF CAREER 5-year project (2019-24, PI: Bae) aims to support engaging opportunities for middle school students to talk science in their classrooms. The team aims to identify ways to connect science phenomena to students’ lived experiences, and track the ways in which students are motivated to engage in scientific discourse. Teachers from Richmond and Chesterfield Public Schools partner with the team to facilitate science talk.

U.S. Dept of Ed Supporting Effective Educator Development (VCU SEED)
This project (2019-24, PI: Dozier, CoPI: Senechal, Abrams, Edmondson, Bae) aims to expand the Richmond Teacher Residency program to three additional school divisions (RPS, CCPS, HPS, PPS) to support rigorous teacher preparation for educators who plan to serve in urban contexts. The research and evaluation team will examine the outcomes of the program on teachers’ instruction and students’ achievement, with a focus on STEM subjects across the elementary to secondary (middle and high school) grades.
