Science Discourse Project

This NSF CARER project (2019-24, PI: Bae) partners with middle school science teachers in Richmond and Chesterfield County Public Schools to engage and motivate middle school students to talk science. Discourse activities focus on connecting science phenomena to students’ funds of knowledge and lived experiences.

Science Communities of Practice Partnership (SCOPP)

This NSF DRK12 project (2018-23, PI: Hayes, CoPI: Bae, O’Connor, Seitz) is a partnership with VCU, CSU East Bay, and the Alameda County Office of Education, and six urban districts in the San Francisco Bay Area. The team aims to implement and examine the longitudinal effects of elementary teachers’ participation in a comprehensive professional development program on science teaching practices and students learning.
